Brighton & Hove Albion is reportedly interested in Hearts striker Claudio Braga, who has been on fire this season. Can he make the jump to the Premier League?
Brighton & Hove Albion is eyeing a potential move for Hearts striker Claudio Braga this summer. The 25-year-old has been a standout performer for Hearts, netting 14 goals this season as they push for the title. His impressive form has caught the attention of Brighton's owner, Tony Bloom, who has been actively investing in Scottish football.
Braga's journey to this point has been anything but straightforward. He began his career in the B Team of Rio Ave in Portugal, before bouncing around the lower leagues with clubs like C.D. Fatima and Vila Mea. His breakthrough came in Norway, where he scored 13 goals for Moss, helping them secure promotion to the top flight. In 2023, he continued to impress, scoring 10 goals in the Eliteserien, which led to a move to Aalesunds.
Hearts snapped up Braga for £500,000 last June, and he’s proven to be a bargain. In less than a year, he’s climbed to third in the Scottish Premiership scoring charts, trailing only Tawanda Maswanhise of Motherwell and Celtic’s Benjamin Nygren. Notably, Braga boasts a better goals-per-minute ratio than both.
Braga’s impact extends beyond just scoring. He’s also contributed six assists and created seven big chances for his teammates, showcasing his all-around game. His ability to outperform his expected goals (14 goals from an xG of 13.4) adds to his growing reputation.
With fellow striker Lawrence Shankland also in fine form, Hearts manager Derek McInnes has the luxury of managing their game time effectively. As Hearts aim to break the stranglehold of Celtic and Rangers on the Scottish title, fans will be hoping Braga continues his hot streak. The question remains: will he make the leap to the Premier League with Brighton, or will he stay and help Hearts achieve their championship dream?
