Arsenal's attacking lineup has seen significant changes over the past few seasons. With new faces and fresh strategies, how will they adapt this time?
Arsenal's attack has been a hot topic for several seasons. When Mikel Arteta took charge, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli were already in the squad. Gabriel Jesus joined in 2022, bringing hope until injuries derailed his impact. Alexandre Lacazette left as his contract expired, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's departure was anything but smooth. Nicolas Pépé struggled to fit into Arteta's vision, and the less said about Willian's stint, the better.
Before this season, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz were the only significant attacking additions under Arteta, both of whom were brought in with different expectations. Trossard was a backup plan after Arsenal's bid for Mykhailo Mudryk fell through, while Havertz was primarily signed as a midfielder, although Arteta likely had plans to use him further forward.
The reality is that a transformative attacker just hasn’t been available for Arsenal. The club's fans may debate this, but it’s clear that waiting for the perfect signing wasn't an option anymore. By the summer of 2025, Arsenal recognized they needed to act decisively to strengthen their attack.
Arteta and his team faced a crucial decision. Relying on Havertz and Jesus, both dealing with injuries, was not sustainable. They needed to make moves. Noni Madueke arrived as a promising winger with Premier League experience. While he may not be a game-changer, he offers more than the 2024-25 version of Raheem Sterling and has potential for growth.
Interestingly, Arsenal didn’t rush to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, seemingly content to let Spurs snap him up until Havertz's injury forced their hand. The club's strategy is evolving, and the pressure is on to make the right moves in the final third. The upcoming season will be a test of how well Arsenal can adapt and thrive with their new attacking lineup.
