Florian Wirtz is urging Liverpool to refocus after their Champions League exit. Can they secure a top-five finish in the league?
Liverpool's Champions League journey came to a disappointing end against Paris Saint-Germain, and now all eyes are on the Premier League. Florian Wirtz, the young German playmaker, has made it clear that the team must rally for the remainder of the season.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Wirtz emphasized the need to secure a spot in next season's Champions League. "We have to play [in the] Champions League next season, we owe this to the club and to the fans," he said. With Liverpool currently sitting fifth in the table, the pressure is on to maintain their position and aim for a top-five finish.
Wirtz's arrival from Bayer Leverkusen brought high expectations, and he knows the importance of finishing the season strong. He reflected on the loss to PSG, noting the team's effort and the electric atmosphere at Anfield. "We tried everything. I think the whole stadium was on fire and the fans, big compliments to them," he remarked. Despite their determination, Liverpool struggled to find the net, a crucial factor in their exit.
The midfielder pointed out the need for that vital goal to shift momentum. "When you are 2-0 down from the first leg, you just need one goal and at best [it comes] in the first half. We tried everything," he said, acknowledging the frustration of missing chances.
As scrutiny around his performances grows, Wirtz remains focused on the task ahead. With the league campaign still alive, the challenge now is to convert effort into results. The coming weeks will reveal if Liverpool can rise to the occasion and deliver for their supporters.
