Stephen Warnock didn't hold back in his assessment of Liverpool's two high-profile signings after the 1-1 draw with Chelsea. The former Liverpool defender slammed Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz for their underwhelming performances this season, despite acknowledging that there’s still hope for both players.
Isak, who arrived from Newcastle for a hefty £125 million, has struggled to make an impact, netting just four goals in 22 appearances. Warnock rated him a dismal 'two out of ten,' stating, "He’s done nothing. He hasn’t contributed at all." He pointed out that Liverpool’s management shares some of the blame for Isak's struggles, emphasizing the need for a smoother transition when signing players. “If you know you’re going for a player, get him in quickly. Don’t drag it out,” he said, highlighting how Isak’s injury issues and lack of rhythm have hindered his performance.
On the other hand, Warnock offered a slightly more lenient view on Wirtz, who joined for £116.5 million. While he acknowledged Wirtz's technical ability, he noted that the German playmaker hasn't justified his price tag yet. "He looks like a luxury player that Liverpool can’t afford to have right now," Warnock remarked. Wirtz has shown flashes of brilliance, contributing seven goals and eight assists in 47 appearances, but his inconsistency remains a concern. "He has spells in games where you go: ‘Wow, there he is.’ Then he just disappears again," Warnock pointed out.
As Liverpool fights for a Champions League spot, the pressure is on both signings to find their form. The team needs them to step up and deliver consistently if they hope to secure their place among Europe’s elite.
