Milos Kerkez is finding his feet at Liverpool, and he credits his smooth transition to the strong relationships he’s built within the squad. The Hungarian left-back has quickly become a regular under manager Arne Slot, and his bond with teammates like Mo Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai has been crucial.
Kerkez shared insights into his connection with Salah, revealing that it goes back further than many might think. He recalled, “When [Salah] came [to Liverpool in 2017], I think I was living in Austria. I was really young, watching and following.” That admiration has blossomed into a genuine friendship, easing his adjustment both on and off the pitch.
“It’s amazing to be here now,” Kerkez said. “He always said he connected really well with Balkan guys that were here from that region!”
But it’s not just Salah who has helped him settle in. Szoboszlai has also played a significant role. “We are close – me, him and Dom [Szoboszlai]. He accepted me really well, like everyone did, but he took me more under the wing and helped me out in many ways. Also hanging out and doing stuff.”
That support extends beyond football, which is vital for younger players adjusting to life at a club like Liverpool. Kerkez expressed gratitude for the guidance he’s received. “I’m really thankful to him for that. It’s going to be one month more and for sure I’m going to miss him a lot.”
Salah’s influence is especially poignant with the forward set to leave at the end of the season after nine years at Anfield. His departure will mark a significant change for the squad, underscoring the importance of relationships as experienced players move on and younger talents step up.
Kerkez also praised Andy Robertson for his leadership, highlighting the impact of the figures the club is losing. As Liverpool navigates this transitional phase, the bonds formed in the dressing room will be more crucial than ever.
