Liverpool's left-back dilemma is heating up, and Danny Murphy thinks Newcastle's Lewis Hall could be the solution. Will the Reds make a move?
Liverpool's left-back situation is set to be a major talking point this summer. With Andy Robertson leaving when his contract expires, the Reds need to find a solid replacement. Former midfielder Danny Murphy believes Newcastle United's Lewis Hall would be an ideal fit for the club.
Milos Kerkez has stepped up as the first choice under manager Arne Slot, but Kostas Tsimikas is also returning from his loan at Roma, complicating the scenario. Despite this, Murphy is convinced Hall should be on Liverpool's radar.
Speaking to Betarades, Murphy expressed his admiration for Hall, stating, "I’m a big fan of Lewis Hall. I think he’s a great player, a brilliant footballer, and when it comes to one-on-one defending, he’s very good." He also pointed out that Newcastle's financial situation could make a transfer possible.
Murphy noted, "It’s probably unlikely that you’ll get rid of him because it looks like Tonali could go and Gordon could go, but if Newcastle have to sell and you can grab him, even if you have to pay a little more, he’s still young, he’s got Premier League experience, and I think he’s been one of the bright spots for Newcastle this season."
At just 21, Hall has already shown he can handle the pressures of the Premier League. His technical skills and athleticism align well with the aggressive style Slot aims to implement. This season, Hall has averaged 1.8 tackles per game and boasts an impressive 85 percent pass completion rate, showcasing the balance Murphy praised.
Liverpool has been linked with Hall previously, but reports suggest Newcastle would demand at least £65 million to consider selling him. That’s a hefty price for a player who might not start immediately with Kerkez currently ahead in the pecking order. Still, Hall represents a promising option for Liverpool's long-term rebuild.
