Jamie Carragher has voiced serious concerns about Liverpool's current trajectory under head coach Arne Slot. The former Liverpool defender fears the club could find itself in a situation reminiscent of Manchester United's recent managerial woes.
Slot's reputation has taken a hit over the past year, with fans feeling increasingly disconnected from the Dutchman. David Bentley's recent comments reflect this sentiment, suggesting that the atmosphere around Anfield is far from positive.
Despite the unrest, Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), are reportedly committed to keeping Slot in charge. However, Carragher warns that this could lead to a scenario similar to Erik ten Hag's tenure at Old Trafford.
On Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, Carragher pointed out the parallels between Slot and Ten Hag. Ten Hag had a stellar first season at Manchester United, finishing third in the Premier League and lifting the Carabao Cup. But the following season saw a dramatic decline, with the Red Devils dropping to eighth place and Ten Hag eventually losing his job by October 2024.
Carragher noted, "My worry with Liverpool and Arne Slot is, are we gonna be in a situation a bit like Ten Hag where he had a great first season? Slot won the league, that’s a completely different level, but the second season was really poor."
Slot's inaugural campaign at Liverpool was a triumph, but the current season has been a struggle. The Reds are battling to stay in the top five, and without any silverware to show for their efforts, the pressure is mounting.
Fans are left wondering if Slot can turn things around before it’s too late. The situation at Anfield bears watching as it unfolds.
