Tottenham's assistant coach Bruno Saltor clarifies that the substitution of Micky van de Ven during the disappointing 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest was a tactical decision, not an injury-related one.

Tottenham Hotspur's assistant coach Bruno Saltor stepped in front of the media after a disheartening 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, as head coach Igor Tudor dealt with a personal tragedy. The loss left fans and pundits alike questioning several decisions made during the match, particularly the substitutions that seemed to disrupt Spurs' momentum.

Tottenham started the game with some promise, outplaying Forest for much of the first half. However, a late corner saw Nottingham take the lead just before halftime, leaving Spurs to regroup. The second half saw Tudor make surprising substitutions, notably pulling Micky van de Ven off the pitch along with Djed Spence.

Saltor insisted that van de Ven's exit was purely tactical. "No, it was a sub with the intention to give more dynamic in the left side and have more legs going forward," he explained. While Udogie and Bergvall brought fresh energy, van de Ven's removal raised eyebrows. The young defender is known for his ability to drive forward, and his absence was felt as Tottenham struggled to create chances.

Fans were left scratching their heads. Van de Ven had been one of Spurs' standout players, providing crucial width and attacking options. Taking him off, especially after a first half that, while not stellar, showed signs of life, seemed counterproductive. The left side of Tottenham's attack lost its bite, and Forest capitalized on the confusion.

Saltor's defense of the decision might not sit well with supporters who expected more from their team after a promising start. The tactical shift did not yield the desired results, and Tottenham's attacking threat dwindled as the match wore on. With the team in need of a spark, the timing and reasoning behind such substitutions will be scrutinized long after the final whistle.
