Aston Villa is moving forward with a significant renovation plan for Villa Park, starting with the temporary closure of the North Stand next season. This decision comes as the club prepares for EURO 2028, where Villa Park has been selected as one of the host venues in England.
The North Stand will be closed for the entire 2026/27 season, reducing the stadium's capacity to 37,000. Initially, the club had planned to add around 12,000 seats in this section, primarily occupied by the most vocal supporters. However, that plan has been scrapped in favor of a complete overhaul of the stand, which is expected to be finished by summer 2027.
Francisco Calvo, Aston Villa’s president of business operations, emphasized that this decision was not made lightly. He stated, "Temporarily reducing Villa Park’s capacity is not a decision we take lightly. However, it is the right decision and one that we have made with our supporters and the long-term future of the club at the heart of our thinking."
The redevelopment will not only enhance the North Stand but also improve the club's sporting facilities. The first-team dressing room will expand to 500 square meters, and medical and physiotherapy facilities will also see upgrades.
This closure will undoubtedly impact season ticket holders in the North Stand. Aston Villa is aware of the inconvenience and is working on solutions to address their concerns. As the club gears up for a return to the Champions League, the focus remains on creating a top-notch experience for fans.
The anticipation builds as Villa Park prepares for its relaunch in the 2027/28 season, aiming for a new capacity of over 50,000. The changes promise to elevate the matchday experience, setting the stage for an exciting future for Aston Villa.
