Aston Villa's Matty Cash has sent a clear message to his teammates: no excuses as they approach the final stretch of the season. With just six games left in the Premier League, Villa sits fourth, level on points with Manchester United but only three points ahead of Liverpool. A disappointing draw against Nottingham Forest last weekend has left the team feeling the pressure.
Cash, a key player this season with three goals to his name, expressed his frustration over the missed opportunity. "Obviously, disappointed, because every game we play, we want to win it, especially at the crucial end part of the season, but we move on from it," he said. The right-back analyzed the match, noting that Villa had the upper hand in the first half but struggled to maintain control after Forest scored.
The Poland international also addressed the issue of fatigue, which could hinder Villa's ambitions. "This part of the season, when you’re fighting for such a big achievement, we’ve got important games; you haven’t got time to think and to have excuses for feeling leggy. Obviously, we’re human; we’re going to be tired, but we’ve got such a big goal to achieve, so we’re trying to not let that get in the way," Cash explained.
He acknowledged the competition, with teams like Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United all vying for top positions. "We’ve got a lot of teams around that are in good form, fantastic players, and big budgets, so it’s going to be a fight right until the end. We’re going to stay focused, go right to the wire, keep picking up as many points as we can, and see where it leaves us."
Aston Villa is also juggling their Europa League campaign alongside their push for a Champions League spot. The stakes are high, and every point counts as they navigate this intense period. Cash's determination reflects the urgency within the squad as they aim to secure their place among the elite.
As the season winds down, it remains to be seen if Villa can rise to the occasion and deliver when it matters most.
