Aston Villa Defender Paula Tomas Announces Retirement

Aston Villa defender Paula Tomas has made the tough decision to retire from professional football before the season concludes. At just 24 years old, Tomas has been sidelined for much of her time at Villa due to a persistent knee injury, limiting her to just five appearances this season, all as a substitute.

Tomas joined Villa in July 2024 after a successful stint at Levante, where she made 107 appearances and contributed three goals and eight assists. She was a key player for Levante, helping them secure top-four finishes in multiple seasons. Her first season at Villa saw her score in a dominant FA Cup victory over Bristol Rovers, but injuries soon took their toll.

Marisa Ewers, the director of women’s football at Aston Villa, expressed her appreciation for Tomas, stating, "Paula has been a valued part of the group during her time here. She brought real energy every day, both on and off the pitch. We wish her all the very best for what comes next."
